In the world of old time radio, probably the best remembered opening line is "HEEENNNRRY. HENRY ALDRICH" and the timid reply "Coming, mother". The character of Henry Aldrich had a play, a radio and a T.V. show and movies under his belt. It seems America couldn't get enough of Henry and his best friend, Homer Brown. Whether it was a money making scheme with pigeons or borrowing his mother's furniture for a school play, Henry's heart was always in the right place, but that never seemed to stop him from landing into trouble. Based on a play called "What a life" in 1938 by Clifford Goldsmith, Ezra Stone was Henry in both the play and the radio show that came of it. He played the part until he was called to duty in WWII. Norman Tokar was heard as Henry until Ezra returned from the war in 1945 and resumed the role. He played it until 1952 when he turned it over to Bobby Ellis. Although Ezra Stone made a name for himself directing T.V. in the 60's with such shows as "The Munsters", "The Flying Nun" and "Petticoat Junction", he will probably always be best remembered as the well-meaning teenage boy whose voice was changing.

Trivia note: The vicious gossip columnist, Hedda Hopper, played Mrs. Aldrich in the 1941 movie "Life With Henry"
