NBC variety show covered under THE BING CROSBY SHOW and THE AL JOLSON SHOW. BROADCAST HISTORY: June 26, 1933-Sept. 22, 1949, NBC. Mondays for
six weeks, then a longrunning Thursday night series. Kraft Foods. The Kraft Music Hall was created to help launch the new salad dressing, Miracle Whip, and soon made it the leading product of its type. The earliest series ( June 26, 1933-Dec. 26, 1935) starred
Paul Whiteman, with support from singing pianist Ramona, soprano Helen Jepson, tenor Jack Fulton, Roy Bargy, and wisecracking music critic Deems Taylor. Al Jolson was the singing star into and beyond the Whiteman era ( Aug. 3, 1933-Aug. 16, 1934), though his tenure
was erratic. Bing Crosby occupied the main KMH years, Jan. 2, 1936-May 9, 1946. A period of transition, 1945-47, was handled by Edward Everett Horton, Eddie Foy, and Frank Morgan. Al Jolson was again the singing star from Oct. 2, 1947, until May 26, 1949. Nelson
Eddy was starred in Kraft summer shows in 1947, 1948, and 1949, with Dorothy Kirsten as his costar the last two years. (Dunning Encyclopedia of OTR) |
