Blackstone, The Magic Detective was another one of radio's oddities in that, as the title suggests, the lead character was both a magician and a detective. There were a few radio shows that were based on magicians, namely Chandu The Magician and Mandrake The Magician (Both found on Dad's OTR). Unlike the others, Harry Blackstone: played by Edwin Jerome, would teach the listener each week a new magic trick that they could perform themselves, impressive indeed when you think how hard it must have been to teach magic without being able to see the trick being done.
Blackstone was aimed mostly at children, but many adults enjoyed the show too. These 15 minute shows
ran from 1948 to 1949.

Note from Dadsotr: Many of the Magic Tricks can be easily performed with household items. Very addicting ! Then and Now |
