Who doesn't remember reading the comic book adventures of Archie and his friends, Jughead, Betty and the true object of his affections, the rich and spoiled Veronica? Archie was a good kid, but nevertheless apt to cause headaches for the adults around him. The comic books, which debuted in 1941 were so popular that they were made into a radio show in 1943 that lasted 10 years. The shows were at one time sponsered by Smith's Premium Franks and each show began with the children in the audience singing "Tender beef, juicy pork, known from the west coast to New York, Smith's Premium Franks". Archie was always eager to help, but his efforts usually ended up with his frustated father bellowing "QUIET!!
!", followed by Archie's friends saying "Yes, Mr. Andrews", Mrs.Andrews saying "Yes, dear" and Archie saying "Yes, dad". An enjoyable trip to Riverdale not to be missed. |
